Compensated Work Therapy Program

Our primary goal is to help veterans who have become disabled, unemployed and/or homeless to successfully re-enter their community and live secure and productive lives. Our staff works with veterans to help them overcome some of the obstacles preventing them from finding work on their own.

Kansas City's Compensated Work Therapy provides a transitional work setting and offers a variety of vocational opportunities for veterans coping with personal challenges.

  • Service-Sector jobs

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

  • Provide temporary income.
  • Develop marketable skills and prepare veterans for competitive employment.
  • Develop and improve work habits and attitudes.
  • Provide recent work references.
  • Participants must be willing to:
  • Re-establish financial responsibilities.
  • Comply with treatment planning.
  • Actively search for employment.
  • Resolve legal issues

What is Supported Employment?

Supported Employment assists veterans who have or presently suffer from severe mental illness with placement and support in competitive employment. We help veterans by:

  • Evaluating strengths, talents, and abilities.
  • Preparing for employment searches including the application and interviewing processes.
  • Helping our veterans become stable and productive members of their communities.

Our mission is to provide realistic and meaningful vocational opportunities and encourage successful reintegration into the community at the veterans' highest functional level.

Supported Employment provides a wide range of support services to the veterans we serve. These services can include the following:

  • Assistance and support in locating and maintaining employment of choice in the local community.
  • Competitive employment placement either full-time or part-time at no less than the federal minimum wage.
  • Career development guidance, job placement directions, and follow up services.
    Employment education and case management.

Supported Employment News

Supported Employment Initiative

  • The new program, called The Supported Employment Initiative is targeted for veterans with severe mental health diagnoses. This new program will help CWT involve many veterans who are presently not being served. Compensated Work Therapy Transitional Residence Program

Kansas City's Transitional Residence (TR) Program is a work-based Psycho-social, 30-bed Residential Treatment Program offering a therapeutic residential setting for veterans involved in the CWT program.

We provide a rehabilitation-focused residential setting for veterans recovering from chronic mental illness, chemical dependency, and/or homelessness.

The TR House strives to provide a residential therapeutic community of peer and professional support with a strong emphasis on increasing personal responsibility and achievement of individualized rehabilitation goals.

Participants are responsible for maintaining their own residences and planning, purchasing, and preparing their own meals.
