In an effort to combat stigma about mental illness and highlight the artistic talent of veterans in KCVA Mental Health programs, the KCVA Veterans Advisory Council on Mental Health sponsored “Recovery Through Art” on Wednesday, October 30th.  Fifteen veterans displayed oil paintings, watercolor paintings, sketches, photography and Native American Art.  For many of these veterans, their art is an important part of their coping and recovery process and several of the veterans only recently discovered their talent when they began taking part in an art class at The Vet Center.

Fox 4 Kansas City covered the event. You can watch a video of the news story by clicking here.

If you are a veteran artist who is also taking part in Mental Health programs and would like to feature your artwork at a future art fair, contact Stana Eager, Local Recovery Coordinator, at 816-861-4700, ext. 56958.
