Medical Center Director
Kathleen R. Fogarty was appointed by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to serve as Director of the Kansas City VA Medical Center effective March 8, 2015. As the Director, Mrs. Fogarty oversees the delivery of health care to more than 48,000 Veterans throughout Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas and manages the daily operations of the 157 Bed Medical Center, seven (7) Community Based Outpatient Clinics, a radiation/oncology outreach clinic, and a Medical Mobile Unit. The KCVA is a principle teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Missouri-Kanas City and University of Kansas, School of Medicine. The KCVA has an operating budget of approximately $340 million dollars and more than 1600 full time employees.
Prior to this appointment, Mrs. Fogarty served as the Director of the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida From 2011 through 2015 and the Interim Network Director for the Southwest Health Care Network VISN 18 from November 2014 through August 2015. She served as the Interim Medical Center Director of the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, LA from September 2010 through August 2011 and the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System in 2009.
Mrs. Fogarty is a Senior Executive Career Development Program Graduate, a certified Fellow of the VHA Mentor program, a member of the Senior Executive Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives, and the American Dietetic Association, and a member of the Board of Trustees for the University of Saint Mary. Among Mrs. Fogarty’s many awards and honors are; the Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Executive, the Vice President Gore Hammer Award for Subsistence Prime Vendor Team and the Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Scissor Award.
Paula Roychaudhuri, FACHE
Ms. Roychaudhuri was appointed to the position of the Associate Director in April 2018. She most recently served as Associate Director at VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System. Ms. Roychaudhuri began her VA career in 2005 as an Administrative Fellow and Patient Access and Systems Redesign Coordinator for the Washington, DC VA Medical Center. In 2008, she relocated to the Kansas City VA Medical Center to become the facility’s System Redesign Coordinator. In 2010, Ms. Roychaudhuri was selected as the Health System Specialist for the Associate Director for Patient Care Services at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, IL. From 2015-2017, she served as the Assistant Director and Acting Deputy Director of the VA Puget Sound Health Care System located in Seattle and Tacoma, Washington.
Ms. Roychaudhuri is a native Missourian, holds a Masters of Health Services Administration from the University of Kansas Medical Center, is a fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and a 2012 graduate of the VHA Health Care Leadership Development Program. In 2016, she was selected to lead the national VHA Employee Engagement Pilot to activate grassroots, purpose-led change. This program was championed and nurtured by her in partnership with VHA Office of Patient-Centered Care & VAPHCS Office of Transformation and is now active in 8 medical centers.
Ahmad Batrash, M.D., FACP
Chief of Staff
Dr. Ahmad Batrash was appointed to the position of the Chief of Staff in September 2014. Dr. Batrash first joined the Kansas City VA Medical Center in 2000 as an Internist and Geriatrician for Primary Care. In 2003, he established the Hospitalist section and was the section chief. He also served as the KCVA site program director for the University of Kansas Internal Medicine Program from 2005 – 2010 and remains an Associate Professor of Medicine at their School of Medicine. Dr. Batrash served as the Chief of Medical SubSpecialty for five years prior to being selected as Chief of Staff.
Dr. Batrash is a graduate of Damascus University Faculty of Medicine. He holds board certifications in Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine and in Geriatrics from the American Board of Medical Specialties. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is a graduate of the VA VISN 23 Physician Leadership Development Program, and is a recipient of the Leadership Excellence Award.
Angela J. Nix, MHA, MBA, RHIA
Ms. Nix was appointed to the position of the Assistant Director in September 2016. Ms. Nix is responsible for the daily operations of Business Office Operations, Human Resources, Safety, Voluntary Service, Lean Management, and Nutrition and Food Service.
Ms. Nix began her VA career in June 2007 as an Administrative Resident at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. From December 2007-May 2009, Ms. Nix was the Health System Specialist for Performance Measures at the VA North Texas Health Care System. In May 2009-November 2013, Ms. Nix was selected as the Executive Assistant to the Director at the VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System. During this time, she was also Acting Associate Director from September 2011-April 2012. Ms. Nix was appointed as the Administrative Service Manager for the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, Texas in November 2013-September 2016.
Ms. Nix is a 2014 graduate of VHA’s Healthcare Leadership Development Program and the VISN 17 Leadership Development Institute (LDI) Program.
A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Ms. Nix received a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 2003 and a Master’s Degrees in Business Administration and Health Care Administration from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2008. Ms. Nix is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certified by the American Health Information Management Association.
Kelly A. Goudreau, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, FAAN
Associate Director Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive
Dr. Goudreau was appointed to the position of the Associate Director Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive in April 2017. Dr. Goudreau is a 1985 graduate of the University of British Columbia School of Nursing in Vancouver, BC, Canada (BSN), a 1992 graduate of the Washington State University School of Nursing in Spokane, WA (MSN) and a 2000 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, AL (Doctorate of Science in Nursing). After working in the private sector for several years she joined VHA nursing full time in 2001.
Dr. Goudreau is a Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Health and has had many roles in clinical, administrative and academic environments. She was previously the Designated Learning and Education Officer for the Portland VA Medical Center in Portland Oregon from 2001 until 2011. She is a graduate of the VA Executive Career Field Candidate Development Program (ECFCDP) 2009-2011 and was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in October of 2012. Dr. Goudreau is involved in nursing leadership initiatives at the local, regional and national level and is a past president of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (2006-2007).
Dr. Goudreau transferred from the Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinics (SORCC), where she served in the role of Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive since June of 2011.
